Brief description:
Zofran belongs to a group of medicines called serotonin receptor-3 antagonists. Some medical treatments can make you feel sick or be sick (nausea and vomiting) - Zofran may stop these effects.

Therapeutic actions:
Zofran is an antiemetic drug that works by reducing the activity of the vagus nerve which normally activates the vomiting center in medula oblongata and inhibits serotonin receptors that are triggered by chemotherapy. It does not manifest any effect on motion sickness or on dopamin and muscarinic receptors.

What is it used for?:
Zofran is used in prevention of nausea and vomiting caused by various conditions:
• Chemotherapy induced states
• Hyperemesis gravidarum in pregnancy
• Cyclic vomiting syndrome
• Postoperative state
