Sumycin is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Sumycin is often an alternative drug for people who are allergic to penicillin.
Precautions:
Do not exposure your body to sunlight for too long time due to sensibility caused by this drug. All tetracyclines form stable compounds with Ca2+ in the the cells producing bones, so it may cause permanent color change of dents in the period of their formation.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity, pregnancy (II and II trimester), breastfeeding, children younger than 8 y.o., leucopenia. In patients with kidney failure should be used with cautiousness.
Side effects:
Side effects may appear as signs of allergy (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of face, lips, tongue). Stop using Sumycin and talk with your doctor if you experience this: call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: severe headache, dizziness, blurred vision, fever, body aches, severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash, urinating less than usual or not at all, jaundice, confusion or weakness, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness.
Interactions:
Sumycin may depress effects of certain birth-control pills. Iron supplements, multivitamins, calcium supplements, antacids, or laxatives should be taken within 2 hours before or after taking Sumycin. Due to suppression of intestinal micro-flora growth dosage of indirect anticoagulant should be diminished. Effect of bactericidal antibiotics such as penicillins and cephalosporines affecting cell wall formation is also depressed by Sumycin.
Missed dose:
If you missed a dose take it as soon as you remember. If it almost time of your next dose just skip it and return to your regular schedule. Never double dose this medication.
Overdose:
In case of serious and persistent symptoms of allergy or nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea consult your doctor about medical attention.
