By blocking acid production in the stomach Protonix is used to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This medicine is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) and may be used in combination with antibiotics including amoxicillin or clarithromycin that treat certain types of ulcers. Additionally, it may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Directions:
Swallow the medicine whole - do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. If your doctor has also prescribed the use of antacids, you may also take this medicine with them. Store this medicine away from heat and light and at room temperature. Take the full course of this medicine, even if you feel better after a few days. Cautions:

There are some side effects that may go away during treatment; these include headache, dizziness, diarrhea, or nausea.
