Phenergan 25 mg

Phenergan is used to prevent and control nausea and vomiting during and after surgery. It is also used to help produce light sleep; treat motion sickness; or treat pain after surgery, in combination with other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Phenergan is a phenothiazine antihistamine. It works by blocking histamine, which decreases the symptoms of allergies and helps decrease nausea and vomiting.
Phenergan is an antihistamine that relieves nasal stuffiness and inflammation and red, inflamed eyes caused by hay fever and other allergies. It is also used to treat itching, swelling, and redness from hives and other rashes; allergic reactions to blood transfusions; and, with other medications, anaphylactic shock (severe allergic reaction).
Phenergan is also used as a sedative and sleep aid for both children and adults, and is prescribed to prevent and control nausea and vomiting before and after surgery and to prevent and treat motion sickness. It is also used, with other medications, for pain after surgery.
Antihistamines work by decreasing the effects of histamine, a chemical the body releases in response to certain irritants. Histamine narrows air passages in the lungs and contributes to inflammation. Antihistamines reduce itching and swelling and dry up secretions from the nose, eyes, and throat.

How to Take:
Take promethazine tablets by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.
If you are taking promethazine to stop you getting car (travel) sick, take the first dose 30 to 60 minutes before you leave.
Special precautions for use in children: Promethazine is not for children under 2 years old; give to children only if prescribed by the doctor.
 
Missed dose:
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double doses.
