Oxandrolone

Oxandrolone is the chemical name of the hormone known as Anavar, a steroid that was introduced to the market in 1964. The clinical purpose for this drug was as a mild alternative to other steroids, one so mild that could even be prescribed to women and children for the purpose of gaining weight following trauma, surgery, severe infection or illness. It has even been prescribed to patients who fail to maintain a normal weight even without any pathological reason. Currently it has some uses in patients who suffer wasting diseases such as AIDS.

Among steroid users Oxandrolone is known as a very mild and even weak steroid that is only used for cutting purposes. Most people who use Oxandrolone will stack it with other cutting steroids like Winstrol and Primobolan Depot. In a cutting cycle Oxandrolone is taken in an effort to help maintain muscle mass while losing body fat. In bulking cycles Oxandrolone is close to useless since its high price does not make economic sense to use it over other products like Dianabol or Anadrol, both which have proven better at building muscle for less than half the price.

Oxandrolone is used by those who seek to get leaner and cut large amounts of bodyfat. For this purpose it must be used in ranges of up to 50mg per day. Oxandrolone is preferred for cutting cycles since it does not cause the undesirable water retention, which gives the physique a smooth appearance. Women may use this steroid to gain muscle size and they report favorable results with as little as 5mg per day, some even go as high as 20mg. Even though women use this steroid as a way to gain muscle mass, men will find other steroids like Dianabol better suited for this purpose.

Since it is a very mild steroid most men will not experience any noticeable negative effects. Internally however, Oxandrolone will cause some liver toxicity, a problem common to 17-alkylated steroids. Women will not experience any signs of masculine characteristics when taking conservative dosages of this steroid. In the higher dose range some women may experience noticeable growth of the clitoris, a side-effect that is not reversible after discontinued use.
