Ornidazole is antimicrobial and antiprotozoal drug used for treatment and prophylaxis of anaerobic infections, trichomoniasis, amoebiasis, giardiasis. It does not inhibits aldehyde dehydrogenase and that is why is compatible with alcohol.
How does the medication work?
Ornidazole is antiprotozoal medication. Action mechanism is associated with inhibiting the structure of DNA in susceptible microorganisms. Ornidazole is active against Trichomonas vaginalis, Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica as well as anaerobic bacteria including Bacteroides spp., Clostridium spp., Fusobacterium spp. and anaerobic cocci.
How to take Ornidazole:
Ornidazole is available in the form of tablets. Ornidazole tablets should be taken orally swallowing whole without chewing. Dosage of Ornidazole is prescribed individually by physician.
Take the entire amount of Ornidazole prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel better before the end of the treatment. If you stop taking medication too early, symptoms may return.
If you missed the scheduled dose, take the medication as soon as you remember, but skip the dose if it is almost the time for the following dose. Do not take two doses at once.

Ornidazole may cause the following side effects:
Drowsiness, headaches and gastrointestinal disorders (nausea). In some cases - CNS disorders such as dizziness, tremor, rigidity, loss of coordination, convulsions, fatigue, temporary loss of consciousness, signs of sensory or mixed peripheral neuropathy. There have been cases of changes in taste sensations, changes in liver function tests, skin reactions and reactions of hypersensitivity.
