Simvagamma 40 (Zocor)

Simvagamma is used to lower levels of cholesterol and other fats in the blood. This may help to prevent the medical problems caused by cholesterol clogging in the blood vessels.
It also increases the high-density lipoprotein (HDL, "good") cholesterol levels. It is used in certain patients to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and death due to coronary heart disease. It is also used to reduce the need for medical procedures to open blocked blood vessels. It is also used in certain patients to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, blood vessel blockage, or chest pain caused by angina. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Simvagamma is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, also known as a "statin." It works by reducing the production of certain fatty substances in the body, including cholesterol.

Therapeutic actions:
In an organism Simvastatin as the inactive lactone, is exposed to hydrolysis with formation of the corresponding hydroxyl acid derivative. The latter represents the major metabolite, rendering inhibitory action on 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA - reductase, enzyme, catalyzing initial and limiting the speed of the cholesterol biosynthesi stage. As a result, as it has been shown in clinical researches, Simvagamma reduces the total cholesterol in blood plasma, low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL). Simvagamma causes lowering of the triglyceride content in plasma, and also the moderate rise of the high density lipoproteins (HDL) content and, thus, reduces correlation of LDL/VLDL and the total cholesterol/HDL.
