Valtrex is an antiviral drug. It slows the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection. Valtrex will not cure herpes, but it can lessen the symptoms of the infection.
Valtrex is used to treat infections caused by herpes viruses in adults and children. Illnesses caused by herpes viruses include genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, and chickenpox.
Valtrex is used to treat cold sores in children who are at least 12 years old, and to treat chickenpox in children who are at least 2 years old.
Before use:
Some medicines or medical conditions may not be compatible with generic valtrex. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about all the prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are consuming. Inform your doctor about your medical history, allergies, pregnancy or breast-feeding. This medicine is not recommended for patients without normal immune system. If you have any doubts about consuming this valtrex medication, consult your doctor before using.
Side effects:
The possible side effects of generic valtrex during treatment are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea or headache. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. You must immediatly contact your doctor if you experience side effects or symptoms of toxicity, fever, weakness, speech problems, seizures, yellowing of the skin or eyes, bloody or dark urine, pale skin or pinpoint bruises. If you experience any other effects not listed above then consult your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist immediately.
Missed dose:
If you have missed a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses together.
